Planetary Nebulae

Planetary nebulae are glowing shells of gas expelled by Sun-like stars during the final stages of their lives. The exposed hot stellar core illuminates and ionizes the expanding material, often producing spectacular colours and complex structures. Despite their name, they have nothing to do with planets.
