Emission Nebulae

Emission nebulae are clouds of ionized gas that produce their own light, energized by intense ultraviolet radiation from nearby hot, young stars. They often appear red because of the strong emission from ionized hydrogen (Hα) and are frequently associated with regions of active star formation.
